My name is Mike Vlach, and my company is called, “I Hear You Do Blinds”. I developed a passion for the blinds industry back in 2005 after I ran into a friend who grew up 2 blocks from me in Wausau, Wisconsin. I asked what he was doing for a living, he mentioned that he and his wife had a blinds and shutters business. I told him I needed blinds for my condo. A week later he shows up with custom wood blinds.
It was while I was watching him install the blinds; I thought I would like to do that type business on the side (At that time I was working in the telecommunications which I had been doing for most of 25 years). So, I asked my friend if I could go on an install or two, and possibly get involved by buying from him, then resell them.
My first sale was in Maricopa, for an order of 21 wood blinds. The second sale came from a lady who I worked with at the telecom company I was employed by. I gave her a quote, and she said I’ll get back to you. A week later she came up to me and said, “I’m definitely going with you.” She told me, that your pricing blew away the other quotes”. She talked to other people we worked with, and it wasn’t long before other co-workers came up to me at work and said, “Mike, I hear you do blinds”. That is how my company got its name and soon thereafter was registered in Arizona.
I’m afraid if you’re looking for some big store-front you’ll be somewhat disappointed. My business, over the past 10 years has been built mostly by word-of-mouth. I try not only to meet customer needs for window coverings, but to exceed their expectations for service and product quality.
I believe in my treating customers fairly with a great price and performance, they might tell two or three people about my product and service. If you mistreat a customer, they will make sure they tell everybody they know.
I belong to several networking groups, such as: the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, Christian Business Network Group, and a by-weekly group called Arizona Connected. It is through word of mouth and these groups that most of my business is obtained. I have plenty of references.
The manufacturers I use for my wood shutters and blinds are located right here in Phoenix. This way your money stays in the valley and if there are any product issues, I can get in my truck and go directly to the manufacturer, which means a quick resolution to my customers.
Many of my quotes include comparison shopping of a similar product(s) from the box stores or Costco. On average, and depending on product, I will save the customer 25% to 50%. I do many commercial applications as well private homes.
So, if you know anyone looking for interior window coverings, such as: blinds, shutters, roller shades, or cellular (honeycomb), etc., I will be glad to meet them in any part of the valley for a free estimate.
